About Me

Hi! I’m Janeen, a writer of children’s novels. I’ve been lots of other things as well — a lawyer, a teacher, an advocate for educational equality — and I try to bring this diversity of experience to both my writing and my interactions with young people.

I was born and raised in the U.S. (Florida, to be exact), by a Pakistani father and white American mother. For the past 14 years, I’ve lived in London, with my husband and three children. I’ve always loved places that are melting pots, maybe because I myself am one.

I won the 2023 Guppy Open Submission Competition, and my debut novel, Evie and Maryam’s Family Tree, was released in May 2025.
